IE Bulletin No. 79-15

Dear Sir:

The following has been prepared as a response to IE Bulletin 79-15 pertaining to Deep Draft Pu=p Deficiencies.

The number of deep draft pumps used in safety-related application on Perry along with their descriptions is attached. The name of the manufacturer, the model, capacity, overall dimensions and plant application are included in the description of these pumps.

We are currently in the process of installing the subject pu=ps and have not yet acquired test or operating data at the plant site.

Some repair work on the Byron-Jackson pu=ps was performed on site. This work involved the replacement of a bent shaft due to shipping damage, and return of the Residual Heat Removal seal piping for a factory hydrotest.

In addition, upon witnessing scxne Byron-Jackson factory pump tests, several problems were observed, including short coastdowns, galled throttle bushing, and scored wear rings. 'Ihese problems were corrected by the supplier before the m s were shipped to the Perry site.

If you require further infor=ation, please let me know.

Very truly yours,

></
