Mr. James G. Keppler Director, Region III Office of Inspection & Enforcement U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 799 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellyn, Illinois 60137

Dear Mr. Keppler:

Reference:

1)

IE Bulletin No. 79-14, " Seismic Analyses for As-Built Safety-Related Piping Systems",

July 2, 1979; with Revision 1 of July 18, 1979 Clinton Power Station Units 1 & 2 Docket Nos. 50-461 ana 50-462 Construction Permits No. CPPR-137 & CPPR-138 The referenced bulletin requested Illinois Power Company to inspect safety related systems for conformance to seismic analysis input information and to report the results of this inspection within 120 days.

The results of such an inspection at Clinton Power Station, if conducted during the specified time frame, would provide little useful information because of the small amount of safety related piping installed to date.

Upon completion of the work, we plan to perform inspections and provide the information requested in the reference in an amendment to the Final Scfety Analysis Report for CPS.

Sincerely,

,JE%%
