Gentlemen:

The Staff is in receipt of " John F. Doherty's Motion to Postpone Discovery Until After The Next Special Prehearing Coaference," filed in the captioned matter on August 6,1979.

Mr. Doherty requests that the Board " postpone discovery from Applicant to Intervenor, John F. Doherty, until after the special prehearing conference," now scheduled for October 15, 1979.

The Staff takes no position with regard to Mr. Doherty's request. We note our belief, however, that it is in the best interests of all parties for questions relating to discovery requests to be resolved informally between the parties themselves without involving the Board unnecessarily.

In this regard, if Mr. Doherty needs additional time within which to respond to interrocatories in order to prepare for the upcoming prehearing conference, we suggest that it might have been more expeditious to discuss the additional time requirement with the Applicant prior to the filing of a fonnal motion with this Board.

Sincerely, A% ln48k~
