2302-sal Revision 1 03/13/78 THREE MILE ISLAND NUCLEAR STATION UtlIT #2 SURVEILLAt!CE PRJCEDURE 2302-sal METEOROLOGICAL INSTRUMENTATION CALIBRATION 1.0 PURPOSE 1.1 To satisfy the surveillance requirements of TMI-2 Technical Specification Section 4.3.3.4 which states:
Each of the above meteorological monitoring instrumentation channels shall be demonstrated OPERABLE by the performance of CHANNEL CALIBRATION.
NOTE:
The channels referenced above are listed in Table (3.3-8).
2.0 APPLICABLE SURVEILLANCE FREGUENCY AND MODES 2.1 Surveillance Frequency: Once per six months (SA).
2.2 Modes
At all times.
3.0 LIMITS AND PRECAUTIONS 3.1 Results of all actions before and after corrective procedures will be documented.
3.2 Notify each Unit Control Room when a channel is going to be taken out of service and/or placed back in service.
3.3 All repairs must have entries made on the weather station machine history portion of the MTX.
3.4 If the "As Found" data is not in Spec. and a recalibration of a individual component is necessary, an individual data sheet must be completed for the MTX.

Record on Data Sheet 1.
6.2.3 Using test fixture, test azimuth accuracy of the system at the four cardinal points (0, 90, i80 and 270 ) by setting instrument on the precise angles.
Electronic processor, recorder and computer calibration will be checked.
Record on Data Sheet 5 and 6 "As Found".
If equipment does not meet acceptable standards the problem wiil be isolated to offending unit, corrected and As-Lef t Data recorded on Data Sheet 5 and 6.

6.2.4 The signal processor internal " Testing" function will be tested, record on Data Sheet 7.
Adjust and repair per vendor Tech. Manual as necessary. Reco-d "As left" on Data Sheet 7.
If adjustment or repair was made recheck "As Left" Data on Loop Sheets.

6.2.5 The 500 Mode will be functionally tested by switching to the 540 position. Slowly rotate the vane until the vane is close to 360 and the Recorder indicates close to 360.
Rotate the vane slowly CW toward 180 -
The Recorder should move upscale towared 540. Approaching 90 on the test fixture the Recorder shculd snap from 540 to 180 -
Stop the vane motion at 180 and record as found on Data Sheet 7 that the recorder indicates 180.
If ttis does not operate properly, repair, troubleshoot and repair per vendor Tech. Manual.
Record "As Lef t" results on Data Sheet 7.
6.2.6 Return mode switch to Op and 540.

If the instrument meets acceptable standards, threshold will'be reported as published specification. If th: instrument does not meet -
standards, actual torque value wi:1 be reported on Data Sheet 1.
6.1.2 Anemometer cup set will be replaced with a calibrated cup set, if visible damage is indicated. ~ Certification of the calibration for the new set will be supplied Dj the manufacturer and placed in MTX. Machine history entry must be made listing new serial number of cup.
6.1.3 Electronic signal processors, recorders and Computer Calibration will be checked by using internal calibration feature and completing as found data on Data Sheets 2 and 3.
6.1.4 If a.ny component does not meet tolerance, repair and recalibrata per vendor Tech. Manual.
Repeat Step 6.1.3 for As Left Data.
6.1.5 Internal Calibration Feature will be checked for accuracy by monitor period on a frequency counter.
Record on Data Sheet 3.
6.1.6 Return all equipment to normal.
6.2 Calibration Direction.
6.2.1 Instrument starting torque will be measured.
If the instrument meets acceptable standards, threshold will be reported as published specifications.
If standards are not met the actual as found torque will be recorded, and the instrument will be replaced or repaired. As Left data will be recorded on Data' Sheet 1.

6.3 Temperature and Temperature Difference
~
6.3.1 Air flow detector will be tested by turning off motor and observing warning indication.
Results will be recorded on Data Sheet 1.
If improper troubleshoot and repair and record "As Left" on Data Sheet.
6. ~,. 2 Disconnect signai cable between PRT in aspirator and junction box at.each level.
DO NOT forget to disconnect aspirator power cable. Temporarily tie off aspirator and disconnect from tower. Lower all aspirators to ground level.
6.3.3 Place all PRT's in a common temperature environment.
This can 0
be a control " bath" or a " ice bath" at 32 F 1 0.2 F.
6.3.4 Determine the calibration bath temperature after allowing at least 15 minutes for all conditions to stabilize and five minutes after each temperature change.
6.3.5 Record RTD Resistance Reading and record on Data Sheet 8, 9, U
10, 11.
If the temperature of the bath is not 32 F the resistance must be compensated. With the RTD still in the same Ice Bath connect them up to the MV Bridge. Record MV output.
This reading must also be compensated by the temperature difference from 32 F.
NOTE:

- This value is listed on Data Sheet under remarks.
- This value is listed on Data Sheet under ohms at 32 F.
- This value should be entered on Data Sheet in block labelled
" Corrected Required Ohms" Millivolt Outout Correction C.F. (UF) x 1 MU/ F F 32 MU = Corrected MU required.
U The corrected reading must be within the actual readings by the tolerance listed on Data Sheet.
6.3.6 If any RTD doer not meet tolerance remove it and install a new one. Take as left.
Inform the I&C Foreman immediately so this procedure can be corrected.
6.3.7 Remove the-RTD from the Ice-Bath, store in a safe place until units are placed up the tower.
6.3.8 Connect.the Decade Box (Boxes) to the inpu't"of the Bridges.
See Figure three.
Complete Data Sheet 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, for "AS FOUND" information.
6.3.9 Review the data if "As Found" :s not within tolerance.
Recalibrate and/or repair in accordance with vendor Tech Manual.
If any unit is replaced, the serial numbers in this precedure must be updated.
6.3.10 After repair and individual calibraticn complete "As left" Data on Data Sheet.
Repeat steps 6.3.3 thru 6.3.6 and complete "As left" Data.
NOTE:
If RTD/ Bridge output differ by.1 F the RTD charactization curve has shifted, notify I&C Foreman to send RTD

6.'3.11 Switch the Processor Mode switch to low and high position and record "As Found" Data on Seet 15.

6.3.12 If "As Found" is. improper repair and/or recheck module calibration.
Take "As Left"_ Data.
NOTE:
If adjustment had to be made recheck the "As Left" Cata on applicable sheets 8 through 14.
6.3.13 Disconnect'all test equipment and connect the RTD to the proper aspirator.
6.3.14 Install aspirator back to proper mounting.
6.4 Final Checks 6.4.1 Insure all connections are tight and reconnected properly.
2.4.2 All Processer Switches are in the Op Mode and the Rea Ons "ght is off.
6.4.3 Tne Wind Direction Function Switch is selected to 540.
6.4.4 The Wind Speed Range Switch is selected to 100 MPH.
6.4.5 Visually make a compar" son checking between both channels, if they do not compare trouble shoot and repair.
If any recalibration or repairs that effect calibration are made, repeat the applicable portion of this procedure.
7.0 ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA 7.1 Data on Data Sheet 1 through 15 is within the toleranca specified on the individual sheet.
