Dear Sir:

Subject:

Response to I&E Bulletin No. 79-18 In accordance with the requirements of Reference (b), the Maine Yankee Atomic Power Company hereby submits the following information.

As reported in Reference (c) the evaluation of the audibility of the plant evacuation alarm could not be completed prior to the commencement of the scheduled September maintenance outage. Follow-ing that outage the evaluation was continued and completed. The results of the evaluation identified certain high noise areas where the evacuation alarm was not clearly audible above background noise level.

Corrective action has been initiated and completed in some of these areas by increasing the volume of existing speakers or adding new speakers where appropriate. Other areas will require the addition of new equipment not presently available.

Procurement of this equipment has been initiated and based on information supplied by the manufacturers, Maine Yankee feels that full compliance with the objectives of Reference (b) will be accomplished within the 120 day period specified.

We trust this information is satisfactory.

Should any further information be required, please feel free to contact us.

Very truly yours, MAINE YANKEE ATOMIC POWER COMPANY I
