KHamill I am writing in reference to your letter of June 11, lhff, iYwhich you forwarded to the Department of Energy (DOE) a constituent's letter of concern related to uranium mining in the Las Padres National Forest.

DOE referred this matter to the Nuclear Regulatory Cornission (ilRC) in early September. Unfortunately, however, neither DOE nor NRC has authority over uranium mining.

l Because the expressed concern relates to mining on National Forest lands, the appropriate authority to contact is the National Forest Service.
