20555 ATTN:

Mr. Edson G. Case, Acting Director

Dear Mr. Case:

This letter is to update you on the installation status of Fort St.

Vrain security system hardware. As referred to in our letter of August'3, 1979, (P-79116), checkout and testing of the rebuilt Vikonics equipment continues but at a slower pace than we had anticipated. The Vikonics Company has notified us that their chief design engineer intends to resign, effective about September 14.

This has been one factor in the slower pace of installation completion than we had an-ticipated. No evidence of major hardware problems exists at this time. However, it appears that it will be necessary to extend current compensatory measures approximately one more month until installation has been completed, all acceptance tests run and the system declared operational.

This letter serves as notice that until the system is fully operable, continuing compensatory measures as outlined in previous correspondence will give assurance that system effectiveness is not reduced below the requirements of 10CFR73.

If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Hillyard of our office at (303) 571-7436. We will advise you when the equipment is considered operable and compensatory measures terminated.

Yours truly,

$ 7Y L~/~~
