The spill occurred during a valve lineup to transfer water from the reactor water storage tank-(WST) to the spent
. fuel pit. 'The spill lasted one to two cinutes before it was noticed and the RW5T isolated.
The total volu:oe of liquid spilled is estir.ated to be aoout 5 gallons, the volume spilled outside the safeguards building was about two callons.
The water was analyzed indicating very low activities of Cobalt-58 and Tritium.
The licensee removed the contamin:,ted dirt. The C:monwealth of Virginia has been infor=ed.

.hile conducting a routina plant inspection, an operator notad a decreese in level in a sulfuric acid tank (used for PH control for the plant

Investigation revealed that a valve had been lef t open and about 1500 gallons of sulfuric acid had spilled frta the tank.
The spillage was contained around the tank end involved no personnel. injuries. i The licensee is investigating the occurrence and has not. ruled out the possibility of deliberate action.

r,ecent media stories have reported.tnat a number of cows have died in a nerd near TMI at a faru in Bainbridge, PA.

. newspaper recorted that the owner of the herd believed the deaths were taused by the accident at TMI.

On.5/20/79, an NRC survey team acco*panied by an EPA representative went to the fam located about six miles southeast of the plant.
The survey team took samples of f eed. grass, soil, uill twater and milk for radiological analysis.
The State is investigating e
the possibility that a Yitus infection is the cause of the deaths, conducting a radiological examination of the. internal organs bf one cow, and examining for teavy metals.
The.FDA has also sent a veterinarian to examine the herds involved.
