Dear Mr. Kammerer:
Representatives of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission recently contacted me regarding the accident at Three Mile Island and I would apprec* ate your clarifying several points for me.
First, I would appreciate the Nuclear Regulatory Commis-sion's estimate of the cost to close permanently Three Mile Island, both Unit I and Unit II.
Second, I would
~
appreciate knowing whether the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, or any other federal agency, would offset at least part of the investment loss if both the Three Mile Island reactors are closed permanently.
I understand that there is a reference in a book (We Almost Lost Detroit by John Fuller) which in-dicates that the old Atomic Energy Commission helped defray investment losses for a nuclear power plant which was shut j
down in the Detroit area.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter and for your assistance in the past.
