1200 East Broad Street Richmond, Virginia 23219 Gentlemen:

This is to acknowledge receipt of your letter dated September 28, 1979.

In response to your request for information concerning enforcement action against New England Nuclear; this matter has been referred to our Region I office and when a Notice of Violation is issued, a copy will be forwarded to your office.

It appears from the circumstances of this incident that more stringent procedures are required to conclusively identify the radioisotopes received by the University.

In this case, a survey of the isotope invol-ed during usage would have revealed an excessive dose rate.

We request that you provide more specific information concerning your corrective actions taken to avoid further noncompliance.

Should you have any questions concerning this letter, we will be glad to discuss them with you.

Sincerely,

-M/'
