In accordance with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Act, we are pro-viding this follow-up on the status of the retransfer assurances from the Governmnt of Finland which are required before licenses can be issued on applications XCOM0057 and XCOM0121 for the export of components to Finland.
The Department of State contacted the Finnish Embassy on August 7 to detemine when the assurances would be forthconing; however, the officials handling this area are abroad until sometime in September.
Upon their return, the State Department will contact the Embassy again, and we will inform you of any infomation we receive.
As we have infomed you in our earlier letters regarding this subject, the Executive Branch and the NRC are prepared to act expeditiously on these license applications upon receipt of the assurances.
