Dear Mr. Crow:

Several organization changes have been recently made which affect the Battelle radiation protection organization. Specifically, the changes are as follows:

The Occupational & Environmental Safety (0&ES) department is now named the Occupational & Environmental Protection (0&EP) department.

The Safety & Nuclear Materials Management (SNPM) section of the former O&ES department has been eliminated.

The responsi-bilities of the section have been divided among two new departments and the 0&EP department.

The responsibility for administerinc proarams for nuclear safety and shipments of radioactive materials has been transferred from the former SNMM section to the Radiation Standards & Encineering section of the 0&EP department.

The responsibility for adminis-tering programs for nuclear material management and safeguards has been transferred from the for er SNMM section to a new department called Safeguards & Security.

The responsibility for administering prograns for industrial safety has been transferred from the former SNMM section to a new department called Industrial Safety.

All departments responsible for radiation protection, safety and safeguards report to the DicM tor. Laboratory Sacccrt.

These changes affect the organization a 'd cersonnel competence material pre-sen'.ed in section 1.3 of Part 1 of Batte'.le-Northwest's license renewal app!! cation.

Ambrose as Laboratory Director effective 1 July 1979.

Dr. Ambrose became a corporate officer in charge of Multi-Conconent Operations for Battelle Memorial Institute. This change affects material presented in section 1.1 of the license renewal application.

Enclosed with this letter are ten copies of a new revision of Part 1 of our license renewal application. Sections 1.1 and 1.3 of this revision reflect the organization changes described above.

In addition, page 1.1-3 of section 1.1 has been revised to state that the maximum quantity of plutonium under the control of Battelle-Northwest shall be no greater than 200 grams.

This plutonium limit was earlier conveyed to yru in our letter of 5 June 1979.
