Subject:
Auxiliary Feedwater System (AFWS) Reliability Analyses for the B6W Plants
Dear Dr. Ross:
As part of the BSW's Owners' Group /NRC meeting of Thursday August 9, 1979, the scope and schedule for the subject analyses were presented.
The analysis presented provided a level of detail that would be useful to each B6W Owner in assessing the impact of proposed changes on overall AFWS reliability.
Although no technical problems surfaced at the meeting, the schedule (report to the NRC on February 22, 1980) did not satisfy the needs of the NRC.
A separate discussion with members of your staff clarified the simplifying assumptions used in the NRC report
(. tot yet published) en the reliability of the Westinghouse and Combustion Engineering AFWS.
Using these simplifying assumptions and modifying the program will allow the B5W Utilities to send the results to the NRC on an accelerated schedule, as follows:
1.
Discuss results of the reliability analysis of the first B5W plant (Rancho Seco) with the NRC.
August 30, 1979 2.
Issue draft report of the Rancho Seco analysis to the NRC.
September 17, 1979 3.
Issue draft reports to the NRC for the remaining B6W plants (as they are completed)
October 22, 1979 4.
Issue a final comparative report for all plants.
December 3, 1979 This schedule was discussed with members of your staff on August 9, 1979.
The following BSW Owners have agreed that c/)*'
