Response to DOE Request for Rule Making to Exempt Low-Enriched Uranium and Technetium-99 in Metal Scrap Enclosed is a letter from W. R. Voight, DOE, to L. V. Gossick, NRC, dated July 9, 1979.

The letter contains a table of quantities of various types of scrap and estimated market values of the scrap that will be stored at uranium enrichment plants by the end of FY 1981 when the Cascade Improvement and Cascade Uprating Programs are scheduled to be completed.

By means of this letter, the July 9 letter from Mr. Voight is being placed in the Commission's Public Documen' Room.

Please reference Mr. Voight's letter in the preliminary draft environmental statement now in preparation in connection with the NRC response to DOE's request for rule making to exempt de minimis quantities of low-enriched uranium and technetium-99 in metal scrap.
