JUL 2.! 1979 SGML:HB 70-1257 Exxon Nuclear Company, Inc.

Research and Technology Canter ATTN:

Dr. R. Nilson, Manager Licensing 2955 George Washington Way Richland, Washington 99352 Gentlemen:

Based on a review of your current Amendment MPP-2 to your License No.

SNM-1227 we have determined that old License Condition 6.4.2 should not have been deleted as it is needed to authorize the use of certain procedures described in your Fundamental Nuclear Material Control Plan.

Accordingly, we have revised the former license condition and are incorporating it as new License Condition 5.3 of Amendment MPP-2 to your License No. SNM-1227, effective immediately, to read as follows:

5.3 Notwithstanding the requirements found in 10 CFR 70.51(f)(3)(ii),

the quantity of contained element and fissile isotope of pellets of uranium oxide or mixed oxide for inventory verification in boats, trays, and boxes may be determined by weighing such pellets and using factors based on current measurements.

This matter was discussed with your Mr. R. A. Schneider and Mr. D. R. Joy of my staff.

Sincerely, 4
