Following up on the reconnendation in NUREG 0500 regarding Design Features to Improve Operator Response (8.2.3).
I recommend NRR create an organizational unit to take responsibility for this area.
Such a group (perhaps a branch called :-!uman Engineering, or M.'n "achine Interface, or Control 'icom Design) naald review, and encourage improvements, in the manner by.shich the plant control system 1
transfers information on the status of inportant plant systems and processes to the mind of the operator (machine to man),
2.
aids the operator in making decisions,and 3.
impir.ents the operator's decisions (man to machine).
This branch is probably ccnveniently organizationally grcuped with Cperator Licensing, Q/A, and any (NRR) group that might be expected to revie.i operating crocefures.
