MAY 3 01979 MEMORANDUM FOR:

R. E. Jackson, f.hief, Geosciences Branch, DSE FROM:

R. P. Denise, Assistant Director for Site Technology, DSE

SUBJECT:

INVESTIGATION OF SEISMIC CHARACTERISTICS OF LIMERICK SITE Mr. Frank R. Romano of' Ambler, Pennsylvania has filed a request that the NRC conduct a complete investigation of the possible effects of nearby quarry blasting on the Limerick site. A copy of Mr. Romano's letter to the NRC is enclosed. This request is being treated as a request for action under 10 CFR 2.206.

This has been assigned green ticket number 06177.

Per our discussion, a response is being sent to Mr. Romano which tells him how we are treating his request, the plant owner (Philadelphia Electric Co. eany) is being notified of the request and our response to it, and a Federal Register notice is being published. We now need to schedule and organize the NRC sponse which addresses the technical aspects of the request.

Please see that the following are accomplished:

(1) The request is reviewed for technical content, and the items which require response are identified.

(2) A lead review is identified.

(3) A plan of approach is established.

(4) A schedule is established.

(5) Assistance from USGS or others is requested and arranged.

(6) Efforts are coordinated with the Limerick LPM, the OELD attorney, and I&E.

(7) A prcposed response is prepared and reviewed.
