4.4 Enclosed for the information of the Lic?nsing Board members and the parties to this proceeding are copies of Commission Papers, SECY-79-278, dated April 18, 1979 and SECY-79-278A, dated May 7,1979 on the subject of Physical Protection of Irradiated Fuel Shipments. ~.e Commission considered this subject at its meeting of May 22, 1979 and ap,, roved the implementation of an interim final rule imposing requirements for the physical protection of irradiated reactor fuel in transit. The rule becomes effective 30 days after publication in the Federal Register and that publication is expected shortly.
Consequently, any shipment of any irradiated reactor fuel which would be authorized by this Licensing Board in the above-captioned proceeding will be subject to the requirements of this interim final rula.
