APPESTIX A NOTICE OF DEVIATION Mississippi Power and Light Company License No. CPPR-118 Grand Gulf Nuclear Power Station CPPR-119 Based on the results of the hTC inspection conducted on May 7-10, 1979, certain of your activities appear to deviate from your commitments to the Commission and are safety-related.
The FSAR, Appendix 9A, states that fire protection system installations will meet the requirements of the National Fire Protection Association (hTPA).
The following deviations f rom the hTPA codes were observed:
A.
The National Fire Protection Association (hTPA), Standard 20, Section 3-3.5.5(d) states, "When the suction pipe and pum psuction flange are not of the same size, they shall be connected with an eccentric tapered reducer in such a way as to avoid air pockets" Contrary to the above, the eccentric reducer in the suction pipe to the west fire pump is installed with the " flat" portion of the eccentric reducer on the side instead of at the top of the piping system as required by hTPA-20.
B.
The dcor openings in the fire barriers between each fire pump room are reg red by the FSAR to be provided with installation of " Class A" (3-ho.r) fire doors and frames installed in accordance with NFPA-80, " Fire Doors and Windows".
Contrary to the above, the doors and frames in the fire barriers between each fire pump room are not approved fire doors and frames.
C.
Automatic sprinkler system installations for the protection of buildings or areas are required by NFPA-13, " Sprinkler Systems", to provide complete (100 percent) coverage for the areas they are installed to protect.
Contrary to the above, the sprinkler systems installed for the two diesel engine driven fire pump rooms and the three diesel engine driven generator rooms for Unit I do not provide complete coverage for these areas.
D.
Automatic fire detection systems are to be provided throughout the facility. The design and installation of these systems are to be in accordance with NFPA-72E, " Automatic Fire Detectors" which describes the location and the spacing between the detectors.
Contrary to the above, the installation of the smoke detector systems for the diesel generator building, the control building computer room and the area above the ceiling of the control room do not meet the criteria of NFPA-72E due to excessive spacing between detectors and improper location of detectors.
