Dear Mr. Varanini:
Thank you vcry much for your letter of April 19 concerning the NRC investigation of the Three Mile Island accident.
I am sorry we did not respond sooner, but the press of other activities concerning Thren Mile Island has kept the Comission busy these last few weeks.
Your letter raises a number of good points about the Three Mile Island accident, and we will consider them carefully as we proceed with our detailed examination of the incident. Although our Office of Inspection and Enforcement has underway an investigation establishing factual material concerning the incident, and our Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation is actively engaged in a " lessons learned" effort, the Comission's comprehensive investigation of the incident is not rs yet fully operational. We will be back in touch with you when the Director of our comprehensive investigation has been named and when the charter has been finalized.
s Thank you again for your thoughtful coments.
] Sincerely, i
\\
