dated April 17, 1979

Dear Mr. Keppler:

Reference (a) transmitted IE Bulletin 79-09 concerning the use of GE type AK-2 circuit breakers in safety-related systems.

This transmittal constitute' qur response to that bulletin for our Dresden, Quad-Cities, and Zion Generating Stations.

At Zion Station, there are no GE type AK-2 circuit breakers in use or planned for use in any safety-related systems.

Consequently, no further response is required.

At Dresden and Quad-Cities Stations, the use of GE type AK-2 circuit breakers has been identified in safety-related systems.

The breakers are used in the 480 volt feeds from safety-related buses to motor control centers, 480 volt safety-related bus ties, and supplies to various safety related 480 volt equipment.

However, none of these circuit breakers utilize the under-voltage tripping devices described in Bulletin 79-09 and its attached GE Service Advice Letter No. 175.

The under-voltage tripping devices in uce at Dresden and Quad-Cities are designed and operated in a totally different manner than those described.
