JUN 2 7 379 DOCKET NOS:
50-382 and 50-383 APPLICANT:
Detroit Edison Company FACILITY:
Greenwood Energy Center, Unit Nos. 2 and 3
SUBJECT:
SUMMARY
OF MEETING HELD JULY 16, 1979 TO DISCUSS DETROIT EDIS0N'S SITE SELECTION PROCESS FOR GREENWOOD UNITS 2 AND 3 A meeting was requested by the applicant to discuss our infomation requirements on alternative sites for the Greenwood CP review. The staff issued an FES in 1974, but the applicant subsequently suspended licensing effort on the units.
Now the applicant's licensing effort has been resumed, and the staff will request additional infom: tion on alternative sites.
The attendance list is enclosed.
The first topic discussed was the timing of the environmental review.
R. Ballard indicated that the staff is prepred to proceed with at least the nonradiological portion of the environmental review without waiting for the resumption of the safety review.
Then the staff's infomation requirements for alternative site reviews were discussed in the context of the Greenwood review. More justification is re-quired for limiting the region of interest to the " thumb" region of Michigan.
The Femi site should be considered as a potential site for the Greenwood units, and a once-through-cooling alternative in a well-selected location should be considered as well.
A decision has not been made whether Detroit Edison's licensing effort will be suspended pending the reactivation of the safety review.
The staff review will not proceed until this decision is made.
