SITE VISIT TO PILGRIM 'UCLEAR poker PL/J;!

On April 27, 1978, the SRC alternate site review team conducted a site visit at Pilgrin Station. The purpore of the visit was to eiew y

the site co that it could be cenpared with alternate sites presented F_ i by East en Edison Conpany (SECo). This was accenplished.

I noted one noted that the breakwater and shoreline south of the plant had suffered sene storn danage.

I wac told 1.; EECo personnel that the damage occ rred during the February stori: (the same storm that produced 36" of snow in scne locations near Soston). The breakwater had been dan. aged -

apparently by wave action.

The armor stone had been displaced such that

' a j: about 30 feet '.ong existed in the breakwater.

The breakwater is necessary to protect the safety-related plant intake structure (Unit 1)

fr:n severe wave action. This intake is necessary to assure adequate cooling water to the plant.

BECo personnel told ne that the danage to
