Dreservice/Insarvira Insnaction and Oreratine History (Fer Feference (a)) URC Ouestion No. 1 State whether the feedvater system velds received a treservice insteetion in accordance with ASME B&FV Code, Section XI. Pasnonne The applicable ASME BLPV Code, Section XI did not require preservice insrection of feedvater systen. However, systen integrity and baseline data vere established by an aunmented inservice insrection trocram as outlined in section L.L.10.1.2 of Tech Cpecs. VRC Ouestion No. 2 Provide the extent of inservice insDection performed on the feedvater pipe to steam generator no::le velds. Include the results of the examinations, any corrective actions taken and causes of any failures. Dasronse 1005 volumetric examination of subject velds. Results of exaninatier vere satisfactory. There was no failure and hence no corrective acti'a "ns necessary. N?C Ouastion No. 1 Provide the schedule and extent of inservice inspection for the feedvater syster for the next insnection interval. Festonse The unectine inservice inspection of feedvater system is scheduled in Octobe* lo70 for Unit II and April 1030 for Unit I. The extent of ISI on feedvater system shall meet the ASME B&P7 Code Section XI. NRC Ouestion No. h Provide any history of water hammer or vibration in the feedvater sycter and design chances and/or actions taken to trevent these occurrences. Resnonse Waterhanners have occurred on two occasions: a. At 0:0L a.m. on May 13,1075 unit 1 reactor tritoed on loss of feedvater. Arproximately LO minutes after the trip 3 vaterhamners were errerienced )

in the feedvater nininr. Damare to the motor operators of both feedwater ston valves occurred which rendered the motor onerators inonerable. The manual hand wheel for No. 11 header ston valve was also damaged. Abnormal occurrence renort 50-317/75/36 describes this event. To prevent reoccurrence of this event, crocedural chances were made such that only the auxiliary feedvater system would be used to recover steam cenerator level followinc a reactor trir. Additionally, rate of fill was limited to 1.2"/ min with steam renerator level between -85" and -30". b. On may 19, 1976 a test was nerformed on Unit 2 to determine the effectiveness of the addition of internal standpipes to the new feedring. With the reactor in mode 3 steam cenerator level decreased to -85" via the blowdown system. Thirteen minutes after securing blowdown feedvater was introduced into 21 steam generator at 5% of full feed flowrate via the main feedring. As water reached the feedrine waterhammers becan occurrine at a frequency of L seconds accompanied by a 1/2" disulacement of the feedline. The test was immediately terminated and feed secured. Hammerine continued at increased severity for some time with a maximum feedline displacement of 3/L". No damare was exnerienced. On October 25, 1978 a similar test was conducted to determine the effectiveness of the addition of J-tubes to the new feedring. No vnterhammers were exnerienced during this test.
