Dear fir. Gr ier:
This informational letter is to inform you of a tube leakage occurrence in the tiillstone Unit 2 degasifier, which resulted in the degasifier not being available for reactor coolant systcm degassing prior to the March 10, 1979 refueling shutdown.
The unavailability of the degasifier was due to tube erosion failure in the steam tube bundle.
The degasifier tubes are 3/4" OD x 0.042 wall, SA-213-TP204 and were supplied by the Sent y Equipment Corporation.
A total of 10 tubes ( (2)-3/9/79; (8)-5/1/79) have required plugging.
The degasifier leaks resulted in minor contamination of the Auxiliary Steam Condensate Recovery Tank and the Auxiliary Steam Surge Tank.
Health Physics precautions were taken and any areas that could have been contam-inated were roped off and monitored.
The Auxiliary Steam condensate recovery system was secured and the Surge Tank was drained to the west condensate pit for Radwaste processing.
Cleaning of the affected areas was accomplished by a water flush for several hours until all levels were less than minimal detectable activity.
The degasifier was returned to service af ter completion of repairs on "ay 4, 1979.
Very truly yours,
