Dear Mr. Cochran:
This is in response to your letter dated July 6,1979 in which you requested, pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, copies < f the SAI Study on Safeguards of High Level Waste Repositories, and all ubsequent information prepared or utilized by the f;RC staff or the Commission concerning this study and its findings.
For your information, SAI initiated its study in February,1979, and is not expected to have a final draft repcrt available until ftay 1, 1980, and a final report by June 30, 1980.
Therefore, at this time, the fiRC has no documents subject to your request.
A request made pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act applies only to records in the possession of the agency on the date the request was received.
Since your request partains to records to be created at some future date, the FOIA is not applicable.
If you resubmit your request af ter the SAI study is complete, we will be pleased to respond further.
