I There are two open items wnich we iwfe been trying to resolve. These are:

j i

1.

All TI scrap is returned to is0E for recovery. DOE does not begia recovery of uranium for periods of time up to two years from date of receipt. This.is to allow DOE to process an economic job lct.

In addition, DOE may conningle similar scrap from several sources.

i In this case they pro-rate recovered uranium to each generating i

source.

WP"'

As a result recovery data is not timely, and pro-rated share is not exact. This is still an open item.

2.

TI has discussed the possibility of using gama scan procedures to validate (or confirm) the quantity of uranium oxide powder at time t

of pnysical inventory. Since this plant operates using a single enrichment, the technique is feasible for clean material.

It was i

recomended to TI that they buy a deep well counter tube to use with existing electronics. They would also have to buy precision plastic or gian vials to hold S!et.

It would be best to use NBS materials L

to fabricate into two or three standards. Similar vials would be i

used for unknowns. TI would then have to perform tests and collect data to establish precision and accuracy.

I believe tne technique is botn feasible and desirable.

All records and correspondence with TI is current and has been transferred to Jarrell Huff on June 13, 1979.
