Subject:

Byron Station Units 1 and 2 Braidwood Station Units 1 and 2 Additional Response to IE Bulletin 79-04, " Incorrect Weights for Swing check valves Manufactured by Velan Engineering Corporation" NRC Docket. Nos. 50-454/455 and 50-456/457 Reference (a):

C.

Reed letter to J.

G. Keppler dated May 29, 1979

Dear Mr. Keppler:

Reference (a) provided our initial response to the subject IE Bulletin 79-04 indicating our continuing review of the use of Velan check valves in seismic Category I systems.

The results of our review indicate that Velan check valves are installed in the Component Cooling and Boron Thermal Regeneration Systems.

Evaluations by Velan Engineering Corporation, through recalculation and/or actual weighing, have confirmed that the valve weights shown on the drawings and used in the piping analyses for these systems are correct.

Since correct valve weights were used in the piping analyses, no further action is deemed necessary.

Please address any questions you may have concerning this matter to this office.

Very truly yours, D

Cordell Reed OU
