Enclosed for your infonnation and retention is a copy of the NRC, Region I Investigation Report No. 078-154 which contains the results of our radiation survey efforts in the Norton, Massachusetts area through December 1978 and the related background information. A copy of this report has also been provided to the Conmnwealth of Massachusetts and the Town of Norton.
The survey data had been previously sent to the Cocmonwealth of Massachusetts and the Town of Norton as enclosures to a transmittal letter from me dated December 18, 1978.
A copy of the investigation report concerning the source of the material in the Norton, privately-owned, landfill will b' #crwarded to you when its review is completed.
At this ti." the responsibility for any remedial action (if required) ir clear. However, the NRC will continue to provide technisal advice, part1.u.-.f with regard to the Norton area. Also, as we had discussed, additional surveys will be arranged so as to better define the extent of the radioactive material with death prior to any further action.
