AGENDA July 19, 1979 The applicant has used a reference acceleration value of 0.129 for the Midland plant design based upon the plant being located in the Michigan Basin Tectonic Province.

The NRC staff has expressed concern that there does not appear to be sufficient evidence to warrant separation of this region from the larger Central Stable Region tectonic province. The staff has requested (Q 361.4 and Q 361.5) a comparative analysis based upon geology and seismicity that would permit it to fully evaluate the acceptability of the proposed acceleration value. The staff further noted that the analysis supplied by the applicant in FSAR Amendment 51 was in-sufficient, and therefore repeated Q 361.5 providing further clarification of the type of analysis required to f?nalize its position (Q 361.7).

The applicant is presently performing a comparative, quantitative analysis of the seismicity within 200 miles of the Midland site with other similar size areas in the Central Stable Region.

The present status and preliminary findings of this study will be presents I I. I, 20
