Dear Mr. Reardon:
Your thouahtful letter of April 25, 1979 to Chairnan Hendrie regarding some implications of the Three Mile Island accident has been referred to me.
The Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation has initiated a comprehensive study of the Three Mile Island accident to identify, analyze and reco mend changes to NRC licensing requirements and to the licensing process, based on the lessons learned from the accident. This study will draw on the results of the several investigations now undervtay of the accident, on NRC staff evaluations of the causes and inplications of the accident, and on recocmendations and ccments we receive from outside the NRC.
The cocrents made in your letter regarding the independence of events are cogent ones. I assure you that they will be given care, ful consider-ation in our " lessons learned" study.
Thank you 'for taking the time to express your interest and views on this important matter.

Sincerely, Crip:2! denti by '
