Three Mile Island Nuclear Station
Dear Mr. Saltzman:
This will confirm our conversation of June 27,1979 in which I conveyed the request of General Public Utilities and of the nuclear pools for a meeting with the Conmission.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss and resolve a number of questions concerning financial protection require-ments which have arisen as a result of the accident at Three Mile Island.
As you suggested we have asked General Public Utilities to write to Chairman Hendrie requesting the meeting. The letter is being prepared and will soon be sent.
I wish to confirm also my understanding that while the effort to resolve these questions is ongoing, the Commission will not issue an order directing that other financial protection be obtained.
For your information we have determined that it is possible to obtain nuclear liability insurance outside the pool mechanism but only on the basis so far of being in excess 309 077 3

There are certain questions which should be resolved before this insurance is attached. The meeting with the Commissioner will be useful in this respect.
