ENCLOSURE 1 JOINT APPLICANTS' RESPONSE TO PUBLIC SERVICE COMMIS3 ION OF WISCONSIN QUESTIONS AND REQUESTS FOR CLARIFICATION REGARDING THE ENVIRONMENTAL REPORT HAVEN NUCLEAR PLANT JULY, 1978 427 236

PSCW COMMEHT 1 Please identify what portion of the plant cost will be classified as for waste treatment.

RESPONSE

As stated in the Environmental Report, Section 8, it is estimated that from 10 to 20 percent of the total plant investment may be approved as investment in pollution abatemert facilities which are exempt from ad valorem taxation. For Point Beach Nucl far Plant approximately 18 percent of the plant investment costs have received such approval. Since the Haven and Point Beach plants are of similar design, it is expected that the percentage of Haven costs classified as for waste treatment will be approximately the same.

PSCW COMMEf1T 2 Please provide details of the calculation of the lifetime ad valorem taxes.

RESP 0f4SE The lifetime ad valorem taxes were calculated by applying the net ad valorem (statewide average) tax rate to the calculated remaining net (after depret!ation) book value for each year of the projected useful life of the plant.

These annual ad valorem tax estimates were then added to obtain the lifetime ad valorem taxes.

The calculated ad valorem taxes will be updated to reflect the delay in commercial operation date from 1987 to 1989.
