FLOATING NUCLEAR PLANTS 1-8
SUBJECT:
SUMMARY
OF MEETING HELD WITH THE ACRS SUBCOMMITTEE ON FLOATING NUCLEAR PLANTS A meeting was held with the ACRS Subcommittee on the floating nuclear plant on June 27, 1979 in Washington, D. C.
The purpose of the meeting was to review and discuss the applicant's proposed core ladle design using magnesium oxide bricks. This design is described in OPS Topical Report No. 36A59, "FNP Core Ladle Design and Safety Evaluation". presents the agenda for the meeting. An attendance list is provided in Enclosure 2.
i I
Since a complete transcript of the meeting is available in the Public Document Room, specific details of the meeting have not been included herein.
At the conclusion of the meeting; the Chairman of the Subcomittee (Dr. Seiss)
+
stated that he would recommend to the full Comittee that a two stage review be implemented to complete the Committee's review of the FNP application.
The first stage would be an ACRS meeting; perhaps in August, at which time the core ladle design and associated matters such as the relationship of the LPGS, the FES and safety would be discussed and reviewed. The objective would be to deal with these matters in a manner similar to the Comittee's review of the LPGS i
and issue a Comittee letter to the Executive Director for Operations (L. V.
Gossick). The second and perhaps final stage would be an ACRS meeting (September /
October) subsequent to the issuance of Supplement No. 3 to the SER which would address all open items. This meeting might result in the issuance of a final Comittee report.
