PRELI11INARY ASPECTS OF JERSEY CENTRAL POWER AND LIGHT COSIPANY'S APPLICATION FOR A CONSTRUCTION pER11IT FOR ITS PROPOSED OYSTER CREEK UNIT 2 NUCLEAR POWER STATION The Jersey Central Power and Ligh Compa - has submit ted an application, dated April 29, 1968, for a construction permit and' facility license for a nuclear power station to be designated as Oyster Creek Unit No.
2.
This facility is to be located adjacent to the existing Unit'No. 1 in Lacey Township, Ocean County, New Jersey.
The core thermal output will be initially 2452 11wt (845 1!we gross) with ultimate capability of 2772 11wt (959 11we gross).
The Unit No. 2 will use an indirect cycle, two-loop forced circulation, Babcock and Wilcox pressurized water reactor design.
The nuclear steam generating equipment will be supplied by Babcock and Wilcox Company.
Burns & Roe, Inc. will be the architect emineer.
IIPR Associates, Inc. will provide con-sultant se.
es and audit the quality control program.
The turoine generator wil.
..e supplied by Westinghouse.
Cur preliminary review of the Oyster Creek Unit No. 2 has revealed no new or novel plant design features.
The proposed Uni No. 2 is similar to the Three lille Island Nuclear Station (Docket No. 50-289)
Oconee Nuclear 5 cation (Occket Ncs. 50-269, 50-270, 50-287), and SMUD's Rancho Seco Plant (Dccket No. 50-312)

Secause of the similarity of this f acility design with the cbove nuclear power stations and its loca tion adjacent to Cyster Creek Unit No.
1, our review of the Unit No. 2 PSAR will be primarily directed toward the areas where sharing.of facilities, use of grouted tendons, quality assurance, and Multiple-plant problems may exist which could affect public safety.
In addition to these areas, we will continue to review and evaluate out-standing problem areas asscciated with the P%'R design as identified by DRL and the ACRS.
No meeting has been held with the applicant (JCPLL) to date.
Conclusi _on Based on our preliminary review of the application, there appear to be no safety problems which cannot be resolved.
