Dear Mr Seidle:

This letter is written in response to your letter of April 26 wherein you requested additional information to supplement that. which was provided by our letter of March 23, 1979.

Af ter further consideration it has been decided that to make sure that the batch, following a batch which fails the slump test, is tested a new program will ce initiated. The main features of the new program will include the following:

A)

When only one placement is being made, the truck following a test load will be held at the point of placement and not allowed to discharge concrete until test results are avail-able.

B)

When more than one placement is in progrest t the sane time, the following procedure will be follwed:

1)

Slump and air content will be tested at the batch plant and at the placement location.

2)

Loads following a test load will not be discharged until test results from tests made at batch plant are available.

3)

If testing performed at batch plant is within limits es-tablished by correlation, the following truck will be allowed to begin discharge.

4)

If testing performed at batch plant is not within limits established by correlation, the fellowing load will be tested at the point of placement. When the test results become available, the follcwing load will be placed o,r,

NOTE:

Results of testing performed at batch plant will be used 55 indicated above. However, acceptance / rejection of concrete will be based on tests made from samples taken at placement location and will remain the " test for record".

Both Quality Control and Work Procedures will be revised to in-corporate the above program. Training of both QC and Construction personnel responsible for implementing these revised procedures will be conducted prior to implementation.

To assure this new program is effective, the Kansas Gas and Electric Company Quality Assurance organization will review all batch tickets for the remainder of 1979 to identify all loads of rejected concrete.

They will check QC records to confirm that " follow loads" are tested.

If this new program does not prove to be effective, a more stringent program will be adopted.

Procedure revision and training of personnel will be completed by June 30.

Please advise if you need additional information.

Sincerely,

/
