SUBJECT:

iiEUSPAPER ARTICLE REGARDItiG WATERFORD, U:iIT 3 Dit 50-382 Pursuant to your request, I contacted the author of the enclosed news-paper article regarding the " allegation" contained in the third column.

iir. Jim Amoss (504 58t-3560) is a staff writer for the New Orleans States Item, the tiew 0.' leans afternoon paper. After identifying mjself l

to him, he indicated that he had no further inforr.3 tion than that pre-sented in tha article.

The three concrete workers he talked to were working on the Intake Structure, a nonsafety related structure; but did say their coments aho were applicable to prior work on the plant proper. He did not know if they were J. A. Jones or Bob Bros. workers.

Only J. A. Jones did safety related work at Waterford, Unit 3.

I tried to icoress upon him how important it is to obtain sufficient specifics to pemit pursuit of all allegations; ar.d that if he does get allegations, we would follow to completion any he relayed to us.

His noral obligation to help assure the safety of the Waterford, Unit 3 facility was stressed, as were our statutory obligations. He was given the RIV telephone.iumber should further itecs be brought to his attention. The Water #ard, Unit 3 ?;CR process was also explained to hic.

File 382 April 4,197f Based on the vagueness of the allegation and the reported c:ployees relationship' to previous safety relatcJ work activities, it is not' considered practical to pursue this raatter further.
