Sunrary of Activities Performed: Assigned to the Environmental Section.
Routine activities included ground surveys and tne collection of air, soil, vegetation, and milk samples.
Ground surveys were performed at designated locations, downwind, during the mornings and afternoons of the day shift.
One hour air sample and a vegetation samole was taken downwind after each ground survey. Continuous air samplers located at the north gate, Visitors Center, and the mobile laboratory, were monitored on a daily basis.
Goat milk samples were collected from the goat farm on 441, on Sundays and Wednesdays.
flonroutine activities included the collection of soil samples at the follcwing locaticns:

West, ground survey point no.18 On Sunday, May 20, 1979, the Claire Hoover Dairy Farm was visited.
Soil and vegetation samples were taken at three pasture locations on the farm, along with a sample of milk, well water, and stored feed.
Background radiation levels were consistent with these found in other areas around the TMI site. Mr. and Mrs. Hoover were interviewed.
Mr. Hoover stated that he had lost 7 cows and 12 calves since March 28, 1979, and that his veterinarian was to perfom additional tests en the cow herd.

Corments on Licensee (health physics) Operations:
The only contact I had with the licensee f malth physics) was during the survey and clean-up of the contaminat'd land fill. Twenty plastic bags of contaminated materials were monitored and removed frem the area.
Two areas of buried, contaminated materials were found. This was confirmed during the ground survey performed by the licensee. The contaminated materials were removed with a back hoe; and placed in four barrels. A soil sample was taken from each of the two locations, one sample contained fission products and the other sample was contaminated only with icdine-131.
Upon removal of the contaminated materials, the area was determined to be within nornal background limits as measured with an Eberline SPA-3, sodium iodide detector.

Ccmments on IE Operations:
In general, IE envirormental operations appeared to be well organized and capable of responding to the needs of the plant operations and to interface with the people off-site.
