Dear Mr. Keppler:
Reference (a) transmitted I.E.Bulletin 79-04 which required a response by all holders of operating licenses or construction permits for power reactor facilities.
We have reviewed the piping systems at Byron and Braidwood Stations and determined that a small number of 3, 4,
or 6 inch swing check valves manufactured by Velan Engineering Corporation were furnished by the NSSS vendor -- Westinghouse.
Correct weights have not been received from Velan as yet but are expected within 30 Jays.
Currect weights will be used in the piping analyses and action will be taken to provide additional supports if indicated by the analyses.
No Velan swing check valves were purchased for the balance of plant piping systems.
