NTFTM 790607-01 MEMORANDUM ft,R: Office Directors FROM:
E. Kevin Cornell, Interim Director NRC/TMI Special Inquiry
SUBJECT:
NRC/TMI SPECIAL INQUIRY STAFF The Commission's special inquiry into the Three Mile Island accident is now established and working toward delivering a report to the Commission in October,1979.
Until an outside director is selected by the Commission, I have beer appointed as Interim Director and I want to keep you informed of our organization and plans.
Your cooperation in making senior staff members available to work on the investigation has been greatly appreciated. We now have about 50 NRC staff involved full-time, organized into eight (8) task groups. A listing of staff members involved in the investigation showing our basic organizational structure is attached. While some task groups may need additional support, I will attempt to limit additional requests for NRC personnel by drawing on the services of contractors and consultants, where possible.
We will be located in rented office space 6t 6935 Arlington Road in Bettesda, Maryland, beginning Monday, June 4, 1979. As soon as possible a telephcne listing will be published.
Certainly if we are to meet the standards established by the Conmission, we will continue to need your full cooperation.
Beyond requests for staff per-sonnel to work on the inquiry, we will be asking your staff for interviews, and perhaps some extensive document searches for working papers or other items r.ot already available.
For our part, I will keep you informed of such things as guidance developed for the conduct of the inquiry, and we will try to coordinate our requests where possible so as to reduce the burden on your office.
