May 19 1979 MFMORANDUM FOR:

D. R Neely, TM1 In-Plant llP Inspector FROM-J.

Kinneman,Ilealth Physic: Support

SUBJECT:

DUT SAFETY INSPECTION OF VEll1CLES TRANSPORTING TMI RADWASTE

Reference:

Stohr's memo to you, same subject, dated May 16;.1979 From discussions with the DOT representatives named in Stohr's memo and members of the licensee's Radwaste Management Group (principally J. Flynn) the following inf ormation has been developed:

1.

The DOT does not wish to inspect every vehicle leaving the site.

The exact limits of their in-terest are unclear at this time, but they appear to be interested in " casks" and large, ove rweight shipments.

They do not intend, at this time, to inspect vehicles carrying shipments of 55 gallon drums or LSA boxes unless they are overpacked.

2.

The DOT inspectors will not be available from May 21 - 24.

Unless the tractors for shipments in this period arrive on site by Sunday, May 20, 1979, shipments during this time period vill not be inspected.

3.

'Ih e licensee has agreed to notify the DUT when equipment for such shipments is ordered and when it arrives on site.

This has been made part of the check off sheet for each shipment.
