Revision 0 04/29/76 THREE MILE ISLAND tiUCLEAR STATION STATION HEALTH PHYSICS PROCEDURE 1799 Receipt Inspection of Till Make Up Pump 1.0 PURPOSE This procedure will define actions to be taken by Health Physics personnel during the inspection cf the TMI Mdke Up Pump at the Bingham-Williamette Facility.
2.0 DISCUSSION This prncedure was prepared at the request of the state of Orecon Health Division to control the inspection of the Make Up purp received by the Singham-Willamette Company.
3.0 REFERENCES
3.1 10CFR20 3.2 10CFR19 3.3 TMI Radiation Protection Manual 4.0 EQUIPMENT 4.1 Eberline E-520 Radiation Dose Rate Survey Meter.
4.2 Eberline RM-14 Count Rate Meter with Eberline HP-210 Detector.
4.3 Smear Papers.
4.4 Film Badge, TLD and Self Reading Dosimeter for each worker.
4.5 Asarbent Paper, Barrier Rope, and Signs as required.
4.6 Protective Clothing as required.
4.7 Measuring devices for inspection of pump.
4.8 Photographic Equipment.
4.9 Lif ting Devices.
5.0 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 5.1 Issue a RWP indicating that radiation dose rates and contamination levels will be determined at a later time.

1799 nevision 0 04/29/76 5.2 Issue dosimetry to all personnel associated with the disassembly and inspectio.1 o' the pump.
5.3 Open the shipping container and conduct a Radiation Survey and a Loose Surface Contamination Survey of the exterior of the punp casing. Record results on a Special Survey Log Form and a Smear Survey Record.
5.4 Establish a lay-down pad of polyvinyl sheets or absorbent paper adjacent to the pump. This pad should be of sufficient size to accommodate the upper casing and pump internals.
5.5 Using the eye bolts installed on the upper casing and suitable lif ting equipment remove the upper casing.
Place the upper casing on the lay-down pad in an inverted position.
5.6 Conduct a Radiation Survey and a Loose Surface Contamination Survey of both halves of.the pump casing and internals.
If necessary, use nylon lif ting straps and other lifting devices to remove the pump impeller from the lower casing to facilitate the surveys.
Record results on a Special Survey Log Form and a Smear Survey Record.
5.7 Place the bolts and/or studs which were shipped with the pump on the lay-down pad. Conduct a Radiation Survey of the bolts using a RM-14 with a HP-210 detector.
If any radioactivity is detected on the bolts and/or studs conduct a Loose Surface Contamination Survey.
Record results on a Special Survey Log Form and a Smear Survey Record.
5.8 Issue protective clothing as indicated by the surveys to the persons performing the inspection.
I 5.9 Perform a visual inspection of the pump casing in accorda- ; with Bingham-Williamette Proceduras. A photographic record will be kept of the condition of the pump.

iiOTE:
Equipment used during the inspection may become contaminated; therefore, all items entering the work area must be monitored for radioactivity prior to their removal.
5.10 Upon completion of the inspection replace the pump impeller and the upper casing.
5.11 Collect all protective clcthing, absorbent materials or other contaminated materials and store in an appropriate container for shipment to TMI.
5.12 Conduct a Loose Surface Contamination Survey of the exterior of the pump and of the inspection area.
Record results on a Smear Survey Record.
S.13 Insure that all Radiation Areas and/or Contaminated Areas are properly marked.
IJ0TE:
A Radiation Area is defined as any area in which the dose rate exceeds 2.5 mrem /hr.
A Contaminated Area is an area in which the 'cose surface contamination exceeds 1000 2
d/m/100 cm.
