Revision 0 04/11/77 THREE MILE ISLAND NUCLEAR STATION STATION HEALTH PHYSICS PROCEDURE 1643 Quality Assurance Tests For TLD Dosimetry System 1.0 PURPOSE The purpose of this procedure is to provide guidance to assure quality of dosimetry used for personnel at TMINS.
2.0 DISCUSSION Monthly and annual exposure tests will be conducted to assure quality of dosimetry at TMINS.
These tests will involve exposures of specified numbers of TLD cards to known amounts of radiation.
Exposures should be conducted by a third independent party and at varie.. exposure '.evels.
Measurements of exposure by certified calib at'd condenser R-meters will be taken as the true exposure.
Deviations of the mean of a group of exposec 4LD's from the condenser R meter value which exceed 25% will be investigated and corrective action initiated.

1643 Revision 0 04/11/77 5.1.1 ZERO eleven (11) of the selected standt rds and expose ten (10) of them in card holder badges to 100 mrem dose no later than the Monthly Personnel TLD exchange date.
Refer to HPP 1642 Sec. 5. 5.2.
5.1.2 Send five (5) cards plus one (1) control to Harshaw Chem. Co.
for evaluation.
5.1.3 Allow 48 hour5.555556e-4 days
0.0133 hours
7.936508e-5 weeks
1.8264e-5 months
delay af ter exposure for fade correction of the remaining five (5) TLD cards.
Store cards in shield cave between exposure and reading.
5.1.4 Read the remaining five (5) cards and calculate mean of TLD-2 readings.
Enter data in accordance with HP 1642.
5.1.5 Read five (5) cards and control returned from Harshaw from previous exposare period.
5.1.6 Calculate the mean and Standard Deviation of each set of five (5) cards.
5.2 Acceptance Criteria The mean of the readings of TLD-2 from either group should not exceed 15% deviation from the exposure.
If it does investigate the cause and insure any required corrective action is completed prior to reading the personnel TLD's for the exposure period.
Report des :ations to the Radiation Protection Foreman or Supervisor.
5.3 Annual Quality Assurance Test 5.3.1 Obtain 121 TLD cards previously tested as per section 5.5.2 of HP 1642 that are n( t required for personnel dosimetry.
5.3.2 Zero these cards by passing them through the Model 2271.
Insure TLD-2 chip residuals are fess than 5 mrem.

Revision 0 04/11/77 5.3.3 Send these cards to an independent source for certified exposure at approximately the following levels.
5.3.3.1 100 mR 20 Cards 5.3.3.2 500 mR 20 Cards 5.3.3.3 1,000 mR 20 Cards 5.3.3.4 2,000 mR 20 Cards 5.3.3.5 4,000 mR 20 Cards 5.3.3.6 10,000 mR 20 Cards 5.3.3.7 In-transit dose (control) 1 Card 5.3.4 When the exposed cards have been received from the independent source, evaluate the cards in accordarice with step 5.2 of HPP 1642. Deliver TTY printout to the Radiation Protection Foreman for further evaluation and filing.
5.4 Acceptance Criteria 5.4.1 Any variations of the mean of a group greater than 25% from the secondary standard (Condenser R-Meter) must be immediately investigated and resolved.
Report deviations and findings to the Radiation Protection Foreman or Supervisor.
