MEMORANDUM FOR:

i FROM:
Robert E. Jackson, Acting Chief Geosciences Branch, DSE p
SUBJECT:
RECORD OF ACTIONS:
THREE MILE ISLAND NPP ACCIDENT In response to a request from Fred Hebdon, I am supplying you with a t
r record of our involvement as a result of the TMI-2 accident.
I have enclosed two memoranda from members of the Geosciences Branch who F
were involved in minimal actions.
When Dr. Sobel became aware of the accident, she contacted a knowledgeable seismologist in that state to L
inquire if any earthquakes had occurred.
Richard McMullen and I assembled the available FSAR, SER, and ER infonnation relating to the geologic and foundation conditions at TMI-2. This material was assembled at the request of Mr. Levine at the Incident Response Center for the purpose of determining the presence or absence of an underdrain system at the site.
Infonnation on joint directions and stratigraphic conditions at the site were also verbally provided to the Hydrologic Engineering Section.
I also spoke with Mr. James Skrove, a former NRC staff geologist who is currently employed by the Bechtel Company. Mr. Skrove had examined the excavations at this site and as a precaution I called to see if he had observed any unusual foundation coaditions at the site. He indicated that he had not.
