i" 4/12/79 Waste Burial - TNI-2 On 4/8, two Chem Nuclear trucks carrying waste from Dil Unit I were dispatched to the Chem Nuclear burial site in South Carolina. After the waste was shipped, an agreement was reached between the Sout:.
Carolina Bureau of Radiological Health and Chem Nuclear Company to prohibit the burial of Unit 2 waste at the Barnwell site.
As a result, the waste trucks, which were passing through Virginia and North Carolina, were ordered to return to the TMI site because the activities of the waste in the shipment were greater than the wastes that had bian buried from the site prior to the Unit 2 accident (2 uCi/ml vs 10-3 uCi/ml).
Upon returning to the site, the loaded trailers were parked at Unit 1 to await final resolution of the problem.,
It is our understanding at this time that the prohibition against burial of Unit 2 waste at Barnwell is not the result of a formal order or license amendment issued to Chem Nuclear by the Statc.
It has been described as a "very firm agreement" between the parties with the concurrence of the i
