T Metropolitan Edison Caupany Three Mile Island Station Noncompliance Notification No. 78-20 1.
Description of Noncompliance On August 22, 1978, a sample was taken from the TMI Unit 1 Neutralized Waste 7;ank (NPDES Discharge #105) ' hich,when analyzed, yielded a total TSS discharge of 108.5 lbs./ day exceeding the ef fluent limit of 73.4#/
day.
II.
Corrective / Preventive Actions The present operating procedure requires sa=pling during the discharge of the Neutralized Waste tank for Unit 1. While this discharge has not been the source of repeated TSS violations, the procedure vill be altered to require sa=pling and analysis for TSS prior to future dis-charges. In this manner, operator action can be taken to avoid a re-occurrence of TSS nonec=pliances from 105.

Previous Noncomnliances of this Type Noncompliance #77-11 and 77-13 IV.
Environmental Impact Statement As the degree of noncompliance is not extreme and the nature of the pollutant is not toxic, it is believed that no significant environmental damage was produced.
