O A simulation has been conpleted of the M-2 coc+aimant pressure response to loss of all contaiment cooling with the reactor in a configuration whsrein all decay heat is rejected. to the contaimant (either a feed and bleed mode or loss of all core cooling).
The THI-2 cont *1mant van modeled using para =eters taken frc::. the FSAR, a 10 Btu /ft 2 br F on the outside of the contaimant, 600F outside air, and the Uchida correlation for condensing heat transfer to the liner plate.
Two cases were run. The first, shown in Figure 1, assumed initiation of the transient on May 7,1%9. As can be seen, design ;ressure is achieved in about 13 days. The second case, shown in Figure 2, assuned initation of the transient on June 1,1979. In this case, contaiment pressure il reaches a value of only 40 psig after 25 days. A hand calculation extra-polation of this transient results in an asy= ptotic pressure below the 54 p ig design value, wherein decay heat generation equals heat transfer frc= the outside of the contaimant by convention.
Previous calculations done in the IAG fo2 M-2 show that only one operating air cooler ot.t of five available vill maintain the contaiment at less than 50% of deaign pressure asymptotically.
Since an emargvincy containment vent system designed to vent at high flow frcxa high pressure would require at least until June 1,1979 to install, a:xi the containment can acco= sedate ainost any contingency after that time without such a system, even if all cooling were lost (rmlikely given L) the installed redundancy in this plant-5 coolers / fans, 4 cooling water 165 268
