MEETING WI'nl DOE REPRESENTATIVCS ON APRIL 24, 1979 On April 24, I cet with DOE representatives (J. Deal, H. Hahn, and

~

EGSG pers'onnel)'to discuss future DOE support for NRC Operations at the THI Site.

Matters discussed and agreed to were as follows:

1.

DOE agreed to maintain support at the current level for another week.

'Ihis involves maintaining a helicopter at Capitol City airport with pilot and scientist in the area on standby.

The need for continuing.this support will be reconsidered about May 1.

The principal ' problem with continuing support in this canner is the matter of heliccAer maintenance.

It was suggested that another helicopter ser cice (Air National Guard or co=mercial) in

~

the TMI area should be considered if support is required beyond May 1.

A scientist with monitoring equipment could continue to be made available by DCE.

2.

Ihe matter of conducting a partial aerial survey around the TMI site at an early date was discussed.

DOE agreed to consider this and reco= mend an appropriate suvey which might be done about June 1.

The areas proposed for survey would be based on data collected during the course of the TMI incident with re-spect to meteorology and releases.

The areas would be surveyed in the same manner as in the 1976 survey to c'etermine if there are any detectable changes in radioactivity as a result of the

~~-

incident.

The above information was r(layed by telephone to Bernie Weiss.

Deal and Hahn expected to ceet with Weiss on the ef ternoon of April 24.

You should be prepared to discuss any changes in required DOE support with Deal and Hahn on May 1 or 2.
