.m h ailver zeolite iodine sa=pling cartridges frcus the EPR-219 have been counted by the ERC, SAI, and EHC. Wro have been scce disagree-cents in the data rer, ults. Some of thaca disagreccents have been treced to evitched samples. Cencrally, SAI and NRC results are in agreement.

EMC resulta tend to be 25-40 percent 1 cue; than ths ERC results. Both SAI and the H:tc count the cartridge with the inlet side or high level side facing the detector. RMC carnts the cartridge on both sides and averages the result. A follo. ring two steps have been eurn to resolve these differences.

A.

Split with Idaho Falls on April 21, 1979, the filter pulled on April 20, 1979, at 0820 was counted by REC, SAI, and the EEO cobile laboratories. All laboratories used their standard method, and the sa=e scuple volume of 1.45 E +.

The folleving rc Jits were obtained:

EMC 1.04 E - 7 oCi/cc Aver.

1.23 E - 7 uct/cc Side 1 0.86 E - 7 oci/cc Side 2

. m SAI 1.97 E - 7 oci/cc Side 1 1.71 E - 7 uC1/cc Side 1 z

EIC.

1.43 E - 7 uC1/cc Aur.

This sample was scat by priority mail on April 21 to the Idaho Falls Laboratory for neasur~ne.

The laboratory should receive this sample on April 23 or 24. The analysis shon1d be cocpleted the day received.

Pending the receipt of TAh Falls data, a conclusion is difficult.

Ic'4 results agree with HRC results for the spiked filter but not the actual sample. SAI resulta sre in general agre-m t with HEC results for actual samples. A source of error for Plc may result from the averaging process. Both RMC and the NRC are calibrated for a uniform distribution using charcoal cartridges. The HFE-219 cartridges contain silver r.colite which has a greater density and higher everage atocic

'..cuaber than rhnrcoal. Self absorptica in the cartridge may amount to as cuch as 257. moretthan charcoal. This does not affect the h7.C resulta since the sido collecting most if the iodine where there is little trans-mission loss faces the detector. Sioce the HRC source to detector distance is large for these high icyc1 sacples, the geometry error is insignificant..

The above results are tentative c.nd the results from Idaho Falls should be conclusivo.
