April 22, 1979 NOTE TO J. T. COLLINS 4/22 STATUS - P. S T0DDART

~

1.

EBERLINE 2i9 M0bITOR A second Eberline monitor was installed Friday and is now operating.

This unit has all of the readouts as part of the main unit, making it necessary for someone to go to the stack shack to record and observe readings.

Paul Voillegue said the readings are within 30% of SAI cartridge results.

~7 I found the iodine channel to be readino just about 1.1 x 10 uCi/cc sal samole, pulled at 0804 on 1130 and 1230 on 4/22).8.The last (at (today) read 9.2 x 10-The difference is small, about +20%,

4/22 well within Paul's evaluation of 30%.

The noble gas channel was reading about 5.3 x 10-5 uCi/cc.

We have one recent gas sample from 219 reading 8.7 x 10-6 uCi/cc of Xe-133; the difference is a factor of six with the monitor reading high or conservative.

The particulate section is reading about 5x 10-9 uCi/cc, but the values are serious in doubt, due to a overly long sampling tube, at least ten sharp bends in the line, and probable non-isokinetic sampling.

The sample line looks like standard I" electrical conduit - nothing saecial.

I estimate the vertical run at about 60 feet.

Stenke, of Eberline, says he has the first Eberline back in

operating condition.

He indicated something about someone feeding the electronic stabilization signal to the iodine channel and getting the wrong response.

Whatever it was, he thinks the problem has been corrected.

The " stack shack" is located near the base of the Unit 2 stack, on what looks like a sect'on of the Auxiliary Building.

To reach it, walk between the Unit 2 cot.tainment and the Unit 2 Turbine Building, past the steam relief valve tubes, then into a corner to the left.

Go up a scaffold ladder to about the 30' level, losk for a " Sears-P.cebuck metal building.
